CANCER DAY CELEBRATION AND CANCER AWARNESS RALLEY

11th February 2019 CGC CELEBRATES WORLD CANCER DAY WITH ALL THEIR HEART! The theme for World cancer Day 2019 is- “I am and I will.” World Cancer Day 2019 was celebrated by Department of Biotechnology, CGC Landran to create awareness among students about causes and effects of Cancer. The chief guest of the event was Er. A.C. SHARMA Director Hr and Admin CGC LANDRAN.Dr. Deepak Puri (MBBS, MS, MCh),Executive Director and Head Cardiovascular Sciences, IVY Hospital Mohali & Dr Atul Sharma Joshi(MS, FMAS), Additional Director, Fortis Hospital Mohali were the guest of Honour. The Programme was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) M. Arockia Babu., Director – Principal CCP, Dr. Shalini Verma, HOD Biotechnology, Er. A.C. SHARMA & Dr. Atul Sharma Joshi & Dr. Deepak Puri by lightening the lamp Er. A.C. SHARMA interacted with the students and briefed them about the various types of cancer and their preventive measures. He said “The cancer can happen to anyone so be aware of the cancer and its causes.” He emphasized the role of diet and good habits to prevent the cancer. Dr. Deepak Puri speaked about the correlation between lifestyle habits and cancer. He also added that being overweight, having a poor diet and not having enough exercise which are all interrelated is the biggest risk factor for cancer. Dr Atul Sharma Joshi also interacted with the students and explained about the early detection guidelines because finding cancer early often makes it easier to treat. He also advised to support cancer patients and survivors with the physical and emotional support. The Department of Biotechnology also organised various competitive events like poster and collage making competition and slogan writing competition on Cancer. More than 200 students participated in all these events. In order to create more awareness among all, students of Biotechnology department staged a Cancer awareness campaign-Skit ” Luck by Chance”and Theme based Fitness Show “To stay Fit”. The students emphasized on the fact that “Prevention is better than cure.” In addition to this a cancer awareness rally was organised by Department of Biotechnology at CGC Campus.
