Biotech Department organizes Cancer Awareness Program

World cancer day is an international day marked on Feb 4th to raise awareness and to encourage its prevention, detection and treatment. To unite this nationwide movement Department of Biotechnology, CCT, CGC, Landran, every year devotes two days to cancer awareness program. On day one a medical camp was organized with Grecian hospital Mohali , under this camp more than 200 people from Mohali were diagnosed for blood pressure, blood sugar, ECG and consulted for routine health ailments. On the second day i.e 4th Feb the event witnessed various inter departmental activities like poster making, slogan writing, quiz competition, declamation contest and paper presentation. To make the day more promising Dr. A. K. Pandey, Prof and Head HOD/Radiation Oncology GMCH Sector 32 CHD, Chief Guest of the program made youth aware about do’s and don’t’s for avoiding cancer. His address was followed by Dietitian Shreya, Shreya Family Diet Clinic CHD in which healthy kitchen habits were the main concern. Dr. Rimmy from IVY Hospital and Dr. Sonia from Grecian Hospital Mohali talked about cervix cancer and about the importance of PAP test. These all sessions has helped in spreading awareness about cancer avoidance. The day was not only filled off learning sessions but also has other activities like fitness walk, fashion show and nukkad natak which showed the causes, and cures of the cancer. The day ended up with fun and fitness dance performances by the students.
