3rd National Conference “Cutting Edge Research and Innovation in Biotechnology & Other Life Sciences” Date of Event: 4th and 5th April 2019 Objective of Event: The main objective of the conference is to provide an opportunity to post-graduate and undergraduate students, research scholars & faculty of the institute and nearby institutes to interact with scientists and get inspiration to join research in the emerging and innovative areas of Biotechnology. Conference will have plethora of invited lectures by eminent experts and scientists,?oral/poster presentations, public debate in the biotechnology & biosciences. Description of Event: The research ecosystem in India presents a considerable prospect for multinational corporations across the world as intellectual capital is available in the country. India ranks second amongst the countries with highest increase in contribution to high-quality scientific research. Meticulous work by Researchers, Patenting of innovations, technology transfer to industries have given a new path to Biotechnology research in India. Initiatives have been taken from Government of India to promote various arenas like molecular biology of human genetic disorders, plant biotechnology, development of vaccines for communicable diseases, food biotechnology, biodiversity conservation etc. The main objective of this conference is to provide an opportunity to students, research scholars & faculty of the institute and nearby institutes to interact with eminent scientists and discuss various recent developments and challenges in research and get an insight to join research in the emerging and innovative areas of Biotechnology. This conference can also go a long way to create and cultivate scientific understanding in Biotechnology field and nurture young talents in the field and help develop mutual trust, leadership and harmony in research and development. Dr. S.R. Rao, Advisor & Scientist H, Department of Biotechnology (DBT) Minister of Science & Technology,Government of India addressed the delegates during inaugural function. Eminent speakers from renowned institutions such as DBT, IIT, IMTECH, and IISER were together at one venue to create unrivalled atmosphere and energy, packed with thought provoking talks, ground breaking discoveries and interactive sessions. Chief guest Dr. SR Rao, senior advisor, Dept of biotechnology, Ministry of science and technology GOVT OF India.He addressed the students and shared his views in the field of microbiology, atomic physics, genetic engineering. Guest of honor Dr. Thirunavukkarasu Angappan, Deputy GeneralManager, Panacea biotech Ltd told about the pharmaceutical aspects and pharmaceutical industries. Key note speaker Dr. Javed N. Agrewal , Dean, IIT, Ropar told addressed the students and shared his views in the filed of immunology. He told students the cause and debilitating effects of autoimmune disease and search of new immunoprogressive drugs from microorganism isolated from environment. Day 2 session was started by Dr. Debender K Sahoo, Chief scientist, ITECH, Chandigarh on Development of E. coli based technology platform for the production of therapeutic protein. He also discussed about the production of antibiotics and enzymes and fermentation Dr. Anil Kumar Sharma, Prof. & Head Department of Biotechnology, MMDU, Mullana on “Breast Cancer Biomarkers providing a therapeutic window for Prognosis and early Prediction” Its risk factors, about tumor markers their potential use.
